What to know before your first visit
Before Starting High-Dose Vitamin C Intravenously, we offer and order these lab tests:
G6PD
Inherited condition that is extremely rare but if it exists, then high doses of vitamin C will cause red cells to split open
Other lab tests that are useful but not required
CBC
Complete blood count tells us about red and white blood cell levels.
Kidney Panel
Assessing Creatinine and BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) are important to determine kidney function.
C-Reactive Protein
This indicates systemic inflammation.
Hepatic Panel
Helps understand liver and gallbladder health.
Blood Chemistry & Electrolytes
Overall profile health assessment.
If you have any of these labs completed in the last year, they will not need to be repeated.
Schedule for High-Dose Vitamin C Infusions
Once we receive the G6PD lab results and it is normal, we then proceed with the following:
- 1st infusion: 25 grams which takes about an hour.
- 2nd infusion: 50 grams which takes about an hour to an hour and a half.
- 3rd infusion: client dependent, 75 grams, where after 3 weeks of infusions 2-3x week, we check Vitamin C peak and trough levels.

Assessing Serum Vitamin C Levels
For those wanting to optimize vitamin C levels in the body and to know how many grams of vitamin C will be effective we can test the level of vitamin C in the blood after the IV.
There is no reason to do this before beginning intravenous vitamin C because everyone is deficient. After the third high dose vitamin C infusion, we can use our glucose meter with an optimal reading being 350mg/dL since the meter registers glucose and vitamin C in the same way.
Before & After Intravenous High-Dose Vitamin C
We recommend eating before coming for the IV as many clients experience low blood sugar and this helps. Bring a snack. It is advisable to use oral vitamin C on the days between the vitamin C IVs.
