Heavy metal toxicity can damage your brain, liver, and kidneys — often for years before it’s caught. IV chelation therapy is an FDA-approved treatment that removes those metals from your bloodstream. At IV Elements, our board-certified nurses administer chelation therapy in NJ using a chelating agent called ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), which binds to heavy metals so your body can safely eliminate them. We offer three different EDTA dosage options: up to 0.8 g, 0.9–1.9 g, and 2–3 g.

IV chelation therapy is an infusion treatment that helps your body get rid of toxic metals. It can treat symptoms of heavy metal poisoning like weakness, stomach pain, and dehydration. It could also help keep you safe from long-term complications of excess metal exposure, including damage to the brain, liver, or kidneys. Because it’s an intensive therapy, we ask chelation patients to get pre-treatment heavy metal lab testing so we can figure out the right dosage and treatment schedule.
Whether you get in-lounge or at-home chelation therapy, our clinician-led team is committed to helping you feel safe, comfortable, and informed during treatment.

Dependent upon lab work and medical condition
Most patients who book chelation with us have documented elevated heavy metal levels from urine or blood testing, often due to years of occupational exposure, old plumbing in their homes, or contaminated water sources. Our most common chelation patients include people who live in older homes with lead pipes, hobbyists exposed to mercury (such as antique restorers and mineral collectors), and those with iron overload/hemochromatosis. Many of them sought heavy metal testing because of unexplained chronic symptoms — like nausea, weakness, or chills — that hadn’t responded to other treatments.
The FDA has approved chelation therapy for heavy metal poisoning; researchers continue to investigate its potential benefits for cardiovascular health and other conditions.

Yes. Before starting chelation, we require some tests to make sure you need treatment and to figure out if your body will be able to safely eliminate the metals:
Because your kidneys help remove EDTA from your body, this test helps us choose the safest and most effective dose.
This test helps us figure out if heavy metals have damaged your liver at all and gives us a baseline for monitoring your liver health during treatment.
This test helps us determine the number of treatments you’ll need to get your metal levels back to normal.

Chelating agents like EDTA have been approved by the FDA to remove lead, mercury, arsenic, excess iron, and excess copper.
At IV Elements, EDTA is given through an IV, which is usually placed in your arm or hand. The EDTA is then slowly infused over a couple hours. Since it goes right into the bloodstream, it provides 100% bioavailability. It binds to metals and forms a water-soluble complex that’s later eliminated through urine or stool. First, we’ll take your vitals and make sure you’re comfortable before starting your IV. Once the drip begins, you can read, listen to music, or just relax. When it’s finished, it’s normal to feel a bit tired, but most people are back to normal the next day.
A chelation therapy session usually takes between 2 and 5 hours.
The number of chelation treatments you should get depends on your needs. We’ll help you figure out a plan that makes sense for you. Many people get between 10 and 20 chelation treatments, depending on how bad their heavy metal poisoning is.
Also, for every two chelations, we administer a mineral repletion IV – our Super Myers cocktail. For example, if you get your IVs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, your first two chelations will take place Tuesday and Thursday, and your first mineral repletion IV will be the following Tuesday.
Yes, chelation therapy is usually safe when administered by a healthcare professional. But the treatment does come with some risks, including nausea, dizziness, low blood pressure, and mineral depletion. Learn more about chelation therapy side effects.
You should not get chelation therapy if you have any of the following contraindications:
late-stage kidney disease
pregnancy
hepatitis B
congestive heart failure
history of TB

The cost of chelation therapy depends on your dose and how long your session is.
