Antioxidants play an important role in your body by reducing oxidative stress, an imbalance of free radicals that’s linked to health problems like heart disease, aging-related decline, and cancer. Two popular ways to boost your antioxidant levels are Poly-MVA therapy and glutathione therapy. In both treatments, a healthcare professional uses an IV to deliver an antioxidant agent into your bloodstream.

But how do you know which option is right for you? Here’s what you should know about the differences between Poly-MVA vs glutathione and how to find antioxidant therapy in NJ, NYC, and Philadelphia.

Disclaimer: Poly-MVA and glutathione have not been approved by the FDA to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Consult your healthcare provider before starting any new treatment.

What is the difference between Poly-MVA and Glutathione?

Poly-MVA is a proprietary supplement blend designed to support mitochondrial energy production, while glutathione is your body’s natural master antioxidant focused on detoxification and cellular protection. Here’s what you should consider when deciding between them.

What is Poly-MVA?

Poly-MVA is a dietary supplement that features a proprietary blend of:

  • palladium lipoic complex (the metal palladium combined with alpha-lipoic acid)
  • vitamins B1, B2, and B12
  • formyl-methionine
  • N-acetyl cysteine
  • trace amounts of molybdenum, rhodium, and ruthenium

It can be taken orally or intravenously.

What is Poly-MVA used for?

Poly-MVA may support mitochondrial energy production by influencing cellular redox balance, which plays a role in how mitochondria transports electrons to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate), your body’s main source of energy.

It may also help reduce oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals and by supporting glutathione and other cellular antioxidant systems.

Other potential benefits of Poly-MVA studied in early research include:

  • enhanced white blood cell function
  • improved nerve and neurotransmitter function
  • immune-modulating effects

What are the side effects of Poly-MVA?

Researchers have not identified any consistent side effects of Poly-MVA. However, some people report mild symptoms like nausea, fatigue, and headache. These effects usually go away within a few hours after getting Poly-MVA IV therapy. You may also notice warmth or flushing during the infusion.

Is Poly-MVA FDA-approved?

No. Poly-MVA is marketed and sold as a dietary supplement, but it has not been approved by the FDA to treat any medical condition.

What is glutathione?

Glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant made in your body. It consists of the amino acids glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. Like Poly-MVA, glutathione can be administered orally or intravenously. It can also be given via intramuscular (IM) injection, inhalation, and topical products.

What is glutathione used for?

Like Poly-MVA, glutathione may help protect cells from oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals. It’s often called the body’s “master antioxidant.” It’s also essential for liver function and plays a role in the liver’s natural detoxification processes. In addition, it supports the function of other antioxidants, including vitamin C and vitamin E.

Also, like Poly-MVA, glutathione can support mitochondrial function, cellular repair, and the immune system.

Glutathione may also brighten the skin by reducing melanin production and promote skin health by decreasing inflammation. Researchers have also studied glutathione’s role in oxidative stress, including in early research on neurodegenerative conditions.

What are the side effects of glutathione?

The most common side effects of glutathione include:

  • nausea
  • bloating, gas, or upset stomach
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • diarrhea

Although rare, some people also experience allergic reactions. That’s why it’s important to only receive glutathione therapy under the supervision of an experienced healthcare professional.

Should I get Poly-MVA or glutathione therapy?

When choosing between Poly-MVA or glutathione therapy, you should consider your specific goals. While both agents may have similar effects on energy, brain fog, and cancer support, glutathione is generally better at helping your body detoxify harmful substances due to its natural antioxidant effects.

In addition, some people view Poly-MVA as more effective at boosting energy because of its effects on mitochondrial function. That’s why some alternative medicine practitioners might describe Poly-MVA vs glutathione as “mitochondrial antioxidant vs master antioxidant.”

For more help deciding, here’s how each therapy compares when it comes to some of the most common treatment goals.

Poly-MVA vs glutathione for energy

Both Poly-MVA and glutathione may help increase energy levels, but studies have not determined whether one agent is more effective at boosting energy than the other.

Some researchers think that Poly-MVA therapy may improve energy and reduce fatigue due to its potential impact on mitochondria and cellular energy. By helping your cells make energy, Poly-MVA may help you feel more energized overall.

In contrast, glutathione, as a natural antioxidant, may indirectly boost energy by regulating oxidative stress and supporting cellular function. These effects could help mitochondria stay healthy, promoting more efficient energy production. However, as with Poly-MVA, more research is needed to determine whether glutathione actually increases energy.

Poly-MVA vs glutathione for brain fog

Some practitioners believe that both Poly-MVA and glutathione may help improve brain fog (issues with cognitive functions like thinking, concentration, memory, and focus). Glutathione may have a more direct effect, as it can help control oxidative stress in the brain. However, Poly-MVA may also have positive effects on brain fog, as it may support brain function by improving cellular energy and mitochondrial function.

Poly-MVA vs glutathione for detox

When looking specifically for detox support, many people go with glutathione. That’s because glutathione plays an important role in your body’s natural detoxification processes, helping your liver process harmful substances. More studies are needed to determine whether glutathione therapy can significantly support detoxification in healthy people, but research suggests it’s more likely to support it than Poly-MVA therapy.

Poly-MVA vs glutathione for chemo recovery

Both Poly-MVA and glutathione are sometimes used to support cancer patients in integrative care settings during chemotherapy and radiation due to their antioxidant effects. Some researchers think these effects may help protect healthy cells in a patient undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, leading to fewer treatment side effects like hair loss, nausea, and mood changes.

In addition, because both agents may boost energy, they might help reduce fatigue and improve quality of life for people experiencing or recovering from conventional cancer treatments.

Poly-MVA vs glutathione for cancer support

Neither Poly-MVA nor glutathione have been proven to support cancer treatment. However, some research suggests they could potentially play a role in some treatment plans.

For example, cancers often stimulate angiogenesis, which means they trigger the growth of new blood vessels that supply a tumor with oxygen and nutrients. This effect helps the tumor grow and spread to other parts of the body. Some alternative medicine practitioners claim that Poly-MVA may use the blood supply that feeds tumors to target dysfunctional cells, but this mechanism has not been validated in controlled clinical trials.

Also, glutathione may help protect healthy cells from damage during chemotherapy or radiation by reducing oxidative stress. However, higher glutathione levels could also help tumor cells resist cancer treatments in some cases because they neutralize the oxidative damage involved in such treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Poly-MVA the same as glutathione?

No. Glutathione is a natural antioxidant made by your body, while Poly-MVA is a proprietary supplement blend that includes palladium lipoic complex, B vitamins, formyl-methionine, N-acetyl cysteine, and trace amounts of molybdenum, rhodium, and ruthenium.

How does Poly-MVA work compared to glutathione?

Poly-MVA may support cellular energy and mitochondrial function by influencing cellular redox balance and electron transfer processes linked to ATP production. Glutathione, on the other hand, is a natural antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals, supports the liver in detoxing harmful substances, and helps cells function normally.

Can you take Poly-MVA and glutathione together?

You should talk to your doctor before taking Poly-MVA and glutathione together, especially during cancer treatment. While researchers have not identified any clear safety risks of combining these agents, some oncologists believe that high-dose antioxidants might interfere with chemotherapy or radiation.

Who is a good candidate for Poly-MVA vs glutathione?

You might be a good candidate for either Poly-MVA or glutathione IV therapy if you want to increase energy, reduce brain fog, or decrease the side effects of cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation. But some practitioners believe that Poly-MVA may help more with cellular energy production, while glutathione may help more with detoxifying harmful substances. In other words, when choosing between these treatments, you could view it as choosing between a mitochondrial energy IV vs a detox IV.

Does Poly-MVA support cellular energy?

Some researchers and practitioners believe Poly-MVA may support cellular energy by influencing cellular redox balance, which is involved in electron transfer processes within mitochondria that help the body produce ATP (your body’s main energy source).

How much do Poly-MVA and glutathione therapy cost in NJ?

The cost of Poly-MVA and glutathione therapy in NJ depends on your treatment needs and the clinic you use. You can check out IV Elements’ pricing here.
