What to Expect at an IV Therapy Appointment

A nurse will clean the insertion site on your arm with an antiseptic wipe before administering your IV. Once the needle is properly in place, the vitamins, minerals, electrolytes and medication in the IV bag will drip down the tube into your bloodstream at a controlled rate.
During the procedure, you can work on your laptop, read your favorite book, watch a movie or take a nap. If you need to go to the bathroom, let your nurse know. Otherwise, we ask that you refrain from strenuous activities while receiving an IV drip.
Does Getting an IV Hurt?

- 500cc bags: 25 to 30 minutes
- 1000mL bags: 45 minutes
- Specialty IVs: At least one hour
